Ruth Bianco, Malta

Ruth Bianco explores contemporary fine art media across various processes combining drawing, collage, sculpture, video, installation, print and publication. Travel, migration and transboundary movement have often featured in her artwork as creative mechanisms to question issues of space and territory. She exhibits her work internationally operating between studios in Malta and the UK.

he has travelled with her work to participate in different and significant exhibitions including Dans la Nuit des Images at the Grand Palais, Paris 2008; Femmes d’Europe, Saint-Tropez 2006; Camouflage, Revolution, and Desireat The Horse Hospital venue for contemporary and media art in Bloomsbury London2012; Stemperando Biennale in Italy 2012; Sarajevo Winter Festival 2013; Regret at the Sofia Press Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria 2013 and at the Salle des Esposition de la Mairie du 8eme arrondissement in Paris, France 2014; and most recently Birdfall in Inspired in China at the China Cultural Centre, Valletta 2015. Her work is held in international collections including the Special Archive Collections of Tate Britain London, the Victoria & Albert Museum London, and the Royal College of Art London.

She has an MA and PhD in Fine Art from the University for the Creative Arts, Kent, UK. She lectures in art and design in the Faculty for the Built Environment at the University of Malta where she teaches in contemporary art and culture, spatial installation in architecture and digital fine arts. She has curated exhibitions and coordinated international artist collaborations in Malta and has taught and lectured in the United Kingdom and other European Universities. She is currently artistic advisor for the development of international contemporary art projects on Ministerial boards for culture and the National Commission for UNESCO.
